HELP REDUCE BURGLARY IN THE CHILTERNS AREA

Alert message sent 15/06/2020 12:37:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

Good Morning
As a NHW Coordinator, it goes without saying that you have a strong commitment to helping your neighbours. But many Coordinators feel frustrated that they are unable to contribute more to reduce crime. For some time we have been saying that we should be working in a closer partnership with the police and we made a tentative start last year with a burglary-prevention project at local train stations.

Now we are going an important step further and we hope you will join us on this exciting project.

Some of you will remember the days when the local police would visit a home on request and give advice on minimising the risk of burglaries. This service was withdrawn when budget cuts struck and t has never been replaced. The task involved is not difficult or very time-consuming but naturally some training is required. We believe this can be done online. So we have reached an agreement in principle with TVP for a number of NHW Coordinators in the Chiltern area to go through the necessary police training modules to achieve the level of competence needed to do what PCs or PCSOs used to do back in the day. As a qualified ‘Assessor’ you will be making a great contribution to community safety and security. Even if only a few residents avoid the trauma of a burglary and the loss of much-loved possessions, you will have made a huge difference.

Please contact me if you are at least willing to hear more about what is involved in the training and the actual process of assisting your neighbours in this way. Home burglary remains a critical crime issue in our area, and you could make a big contribution to reducing it by joining this project.

I look forward to hearing from you.

David
