Ramadan at Home during COVID-19 Lockdown

Alert message sent 24/04/2020 11:37:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Ramadan this year will be a very different experience for Muslims all over the world during the COVID-19 lockdown, as we all make changes to our daily routines in accordance with the Government’s public health advice to help stop the spread of this virus.

We all have a vital role to play in staying at home and keeping our communities safe; you can spread coronavirus even if you do not display any symptoms.

We understand that this is usually a time to share your faith with your neighbours, friends, family and colleagues which now looks very different. Under the new social distancing measures usual gatherings that occur as part of Ramadan are no longer allowed and travel is restricted to essential journeys only. Thames Valley Police understands that this may cause communities to feel anxious and unsettled.

My colleagues and I are continuing to engage with our communities, to explain the measures and encourage everyone to comply with the government’s guidelines. We will only take enforcement action if it is necessary and proportionate.
