FIRST: Video Doorbells.
I have been promoting these for some time and I do get a lot of feedback, from people who have purchased and installed them. A leaflet is attached.
I received this message from Carey, this morning:
We live in Upper Village Road in Ascot and unfortunately, we have a report for your weekly roundup. See the clip below from our Video Doorbell.
Items were removed from the car and left on our drive. It doesn't appear thast anything was taken. A pair of Le Chameau wellington boots, were also left on the pavement. These do not belong to us, so perhaps they were taken from someone else’s car ?
If you live near Upper Village Road ? - have you lost some wellies ? Do you have CCTV ? If so, please check it. Please let me know if you have been a victim, but not reported it to the police. You may not know, you were targeted, if nothing was stolen ?
Carey tells me:
‘The doorbell camera records each time it senses movement. You'll see we also have a motion detection security light, but that didn't deter him !

Carey Several options here: The first option - to deter Opportunist Thieves is a Burglar Alarm ! The second - is CCTV - but generally the Opportunists are CCTV savvy - hence the hoodys Then - a Video Doorbell And - swap one of your front facing security lights, with a ‘Guard Cam’. The Guard Cam, also has a secret camera inside, not visible from the street. It also has a heat & motion sensor, and records every time the beam is broken. It’s benefit, is the fact that at night, if the beam is broken, the floodlight comes on, when photographing whoever is on the drive - in full colour, High Definition. Images. The more expensive versions - can also - like the Video Doorbell - send the video footage, to your mobile phone !
Our Chief Constable - Francis Habgood is retiring shortly and his successor has been chosen:
The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Anthony Stansfeld, has chosen John Campbell, as his proposed appointment, for Chief Constable. Anthony Stansfeld said: “After a detailed selection process I am delighted to announce that John Campbell is my preferred candidate to be appointed as the next Chief Constable for Thames Valley Police. I look to forward to working closely with him in the future.”
Deputy Chief Constable John Campbell said: “I feel privileged, to be chosen as the preferred candidate for the next Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police.
“I am very proud to have been a Chief Officer with Thames Valley Police for over eight years, and look to take over from an outstanding Chief Constable in Francis. I hope to build on his successes, in my tenure as Chief.
“It will be an honour, to lead all those who work and volunteer for us so that we can continue to deliver a police force that protects the communities of the Thames Valley and gives the public the standard of service that they deserve.”
The appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing, by the Thames Valley Police and Crime Panel, who will review the PCC’s proposed appointment on Friday 1 February.
John Campbell QPM
John joined TVP in July 2010, as an Assistant Chief Constable (Operations), moving to ACC Crime in 2013 and Deputy Chief Constable, in May 2015.
He began his police career with West Midlands Police in 1998, before transferring to Hampshire Constabulary, in 2001. He has performed a number of roles within the police, including Uniform, CID and specialist postings as a Force Hostage Negotiator.
As a Chief Superintendent, he served as the police Commander in Portsmouth for three years, before becoming Commander of Operations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
He also holds the National police Chief’s Council lead for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Policing.
John is very well known to us locally and often visits this area.
He has also been involved personally with and supports, an initiative I organise - ‘The Food Academy’.
We obtained funding from ‘The Army Covenant’ to organise 4, ‘Food Academies’, to work with both army and local families.
We receive nominations from local schools, agencies, partners and local councillors for 12 students, who may lack personal confidence and who would benefit, from some team building. They attend the Home Economics Suite, kindly offered to us, by The Windsor Girls School, for a 7 week, intensive and challenging, cooking course. We have a wonderful team of volunteers who work with the students, sometimes on a one to one basis, over the 7 weeks, building the students’ self-confidence and self esteem. In the middle of each session, one of our partner agencies, makes a presentation, on online safety, sexting, drugs awareness, relationships - whatever we feel the group needs.
The course culminates, with a 3 course Banquet, cooked by the students, for 70 invited family members and local dignitaries, including the Mayor, local Councillors, the High Sheriff, the Chief Constable, several Deputy and Assistant Chief Constables and heads of all the agencies, involved with young people in RBWM.
These are very prestigious events ! The first, was held in the Mess in the Combermere Barracks, with all the Household Cavalry crystal, crested dinner service, silverware, candlesticks and their silver table decorations !!! It was amazing. We were entertained by the Windsor Boys School Orchestra and The Windsor Girls School Choir. The Second, was held in the Victoria Barracks, Sergeants Mess and the Coldstream Guards did us proud. At that event, we were entertained by the Heidi Rhodes School of Dance. The last Banquet, was held at the Windsor Race Course, who were very generous and made all their facilities and chefs, available to us. We were entertained by Svetlana with dancers trained by Russian Ballet Schools and singers to ‘a Russian Christmas’,!
Our final course, funded by the Army Covenant, starts at the end of January and John will again be invited to the Banquet.
The team that manages this initiative, is going out to various organisations, to seek funding, for further courses. This was the press release. I have spoken to the team that did it - it was in fact a huge piece of work involving multiple teams of officers with helicopter support, police chases and a lot more. It was a brilliant job, with excellent results !

ASCOT & SOUTH ASCOT:
14/1 Monday 5.55 a.m. Charnwood, Station Road. Burglary. The owner was out, when a neighbour heard the alarm sounding and called the owner. The owner returned and found the rear patio doors forced. The bedroom was searched and a jewellery box containing very valuable tiffany jewellery stolen.
14/1 - 15/1 Monday 6 a.m. / Tuesday 10.30 a.m. St. George’s Lane. CAR ENTERED BY UNKNOWN MEANS and searched - loose change stolen.
