Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

FIRST:  Another of the scams we have reported recently – emails from someone you know – similar to ‘I am crying as I write this / my debit card was rejected, can you buy for me ?  As the emails are from someone you know – they are addressed personally and look genuine.

An elderly resident in Horton, received an email purportedly coming from someone she knows well.  Their debit card had been rejected and it was their niece’s birthday, could she please go to a local supermarket and purchase £200 worth of ITunes vouchers for her – they will refund the cost.  Once she had purchased them, she was to scratch off the silver foil on the back to reveal the code, photograph it on her phone and send the images back to that email address.

She went to a local supermarket and did as requested.

Today, she has been asked to do this again – this time £300 worth of vouchers.  She became suspicious and went to visit the person who had supposedly sent the email.  They confirmed they knew nothing about it and that it must be a scam.

These are obviously – as this is the second reported to us in a week – very prevalent at the moment.  It means the person – who has purportedly sent the email has been hacked and this message has been sent to everyone in their personal address book !  Imagine how many people received and possibly acted on this email !

If you get one of these – make contact with sender – not using the email in the message to establish whether or not it is true !

Think – Pause – Breathe – then establish if it is true.

Our volunteer NHW Video Doorbell Guru, has put together a website with a lot of information you need to consider, if you are thinking about installing one:

Once you have looked at this site and still want to go ahead, Valerie Pike, the Chair of the Windsor & Ascot NHW Association will put you in contact with the Guru.  Email a request to:

We are receiving increased numbers of calls reporting suspicious people and cars out and about, particularly during the early hours, along with video clips from Video doorbells.  We are really grateful for thse calls and the intelligence they contain.  When we get a call that someone is walking along a road trying car door handles we respond immediately and carry out an area search for that person, so as good a description as possible is necessary.  This gives us the necessary evidence to ‘stop check’ someone that matches the description given.

Please keep the intelligence coming – it helps us to help you !

NEXT:  You will notice 2 email address above each Neighbourhood below.  The first is an email address for your local neighbourhood Team, if you wish to make contact with them.

The second SR – email address is for any suspicious incidents / intelligence.

I have attached reference numbers to each crime report. If you live in the vicinity of any of the crimes mentioned and have CCTV or a video doorbell, can you please check the footage. If you have any that might be of interest to the police, can you please make contact with us, quoting reference number given.

I have added a new email address below.  The first email address is directly to your local Neighbourhood Team.  The second is to our investigation team.  Please use it to send any intelligence / video doorbell / CCTV footage you may have, which is relevant to any of the crimes lists below - quoting the reference number.
