NO CARS BROKEN INTO !

Once again – out thanks to those that have phoned through suspicious people and cars in the early hours – this helps us enormously.  We can organise additional patrols around this intelligence – which is hopefully assisting with the reduction in local crime.

MANY THANKS EVERYONE – KEEP CHECKING YOUR VIDEO DOORBELL FOOTAGE AND IF THERE IS ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS – SEND IT TO THE SR EMAIL BELOW.

HELP US - TO HELP YOU

FIRST:- From the Borough

Don’t drop your guard

The last ten months have been tough and you may feel that your willpower to follow the rules/guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is weakening, but COVID-19 ‘fatigue’ is as dangerous as the virus itself.

Cases across the Royal Borough continue to rise rapidly due to the new variant, and local NHS services are under immense pressure – more than they were in April last year.

It’s tempting to think that with the roll-out of the vaccines, the pandemic is nearly over. It’s not. The behaviour of each and every one of us will make the difference during the coming months. Stay home. It’s as simple as that. If you’re still unsure about the lockdown restrictions, you can read them here.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home

To see which council services will remain open/in operation during lockdown look here:

Think 111 First for your health worries

If you require urgent, but not life-threatening, care, and you’re not sure where to go for help, you can contact NHS 111 First.

If you can’t get through to your GP surgery and you don’t know where to go before visiting your local Emergency Department, you can access the NHS 111 service either by visiting the 111 website, or by calling 111 direct.

Agendas are published a week in advance, so you can see what councillors will be discussing and get involved, if there is something you are interested in.

Suggestions for discussion will be added to a future agenda if appropriate.

The next meeting of the Maidenhead Town Forum is on Monday 1 February

To find out more about how to get involved, email mark.beeley@rbwm.gov.uk

You can watch the meetings live on the RBWM YouTube channel:

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:

FIRST:  A N.I. SCAM

Hi Jeff

I had a call with recorded voicemail saying my national insurance number had been used in a fraud in Wales. Followed by the usual press 1 or money will be able to be taken. At that point I ended the call.

Regards

Lorraine

NEXT:  An HSBC Scam

Hi Jeff,

My husband just got a text message on mobile phone – supposedly from HSBC Bank.
It says that a named person – he does not know – was added to his account as a payee and authorised to use it.  If he did not authorised this – please click on the link below !!!

Obviously it is a scam as he does not bank with HSBC. Please warn on alert neighbourhood site.

Hilary

AND PAUL GOT THIS TOO:

Hi Jeff

I have had endless calls this week, on my land line and mobile phone, but one was quite concerning, because the timing happened to be spot on.

I had been trying to email a Gov. website, relating to pensions.  The next day, by pure co-incidence, I received a call on my mobile, supposedly from the fraud department of the DHSS, suggesting that my N.I. number was being used illegally.  He was very good and insistent, we never got to the bit where he asked for financial information, but I would be concerned if he spoke with someone who was more ‘tolerant’ than me

Paul

Many thanks Hillary & Paul – If you get one of these:

BREATHE – PAUSE – THINK BEFORE RESPONDING

NEXT: Inland Revenue Scam
:

Hi Jeff,

My wife recently received an automated message on her mobile, saying that she was being investigated for Tax Fraud

She hung up immediately, but was slightly concerned, as she has just filed a Tax return that weekend.  I assume HMRC would not contact anyone in this way and it must be a scam.
She was also slightly concerned that the scammers know that she has filed a tax return, but again I assume that this is co-incidental, as they'll target people randomly anyway and especially at this time of year when people are filling tax returns before the deadline of 31/01

Thanks

Jody

Thanks Jody –

These calls are what we hear about in elections – ‘robocalls’.  A real person records the message and then banks of computers then sends it out, to hundreds of thousands.

Potential victims are not personally targeted – they have no idea she had submitted a tax return – it is totally random.  They send out hundreds of thousands of these texts and hope even for a 1% return.
