Best wishes for the Year of the Tiger

Alert message sent 31/01/2022 19:03:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

We would like to offer our best wishes for a happy and healthy Year of the Tiger to everyone celebrating the Chinese New Year.

If you are planning to leave your home as part of the celebrations, please consider the below crime prevention advice for protecting your home and valuables:

• Doors/Locks – fit strong locks and always remember to lock all doors and windows. Make sure your doors and frames are strong and in good condition.
• Keys – don’t leave keys in locks in front or back doors, near letter boxes or cat flaps. If you have a keyless vehicle, store your fob away from doors and windows in a signal-blocking pouch, case or secure metal container.
• Alarm – if you have an alarm, ensure it is working properly. If you don’t have an alarm, consider installing one. You could also consider installing a video doorbell or CCTV system.
• Timer switch – if your home will be vacant for long periods, use timer switches to turn on lights and radios when it gets dark.
• Valuables – keep an inventory of valuables, photograph your jewellery, consider installing a safe and do not keep large amounts of cash at home.
• Please do not post on social media platforms that you are away from your home.

If you witness any crimes or suspicious activity, please report this on our website using the Report or Tell Us About buttons or by calling 101. Alternatively, you can visit Crimestoppers anonymously at or call free phone 0800 555 111.
Please feel free to download our attached crime prevention leaflets.

Thank you.
