NW Crime Survey Burglary Defrosting Cars

Alert message sent 23/01/2022 17:16:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

This is a message from Val McPherson Vice Chair Princes Risborough & District Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Crime Survey within  the Area

I have been informed by a member that on Saturday 15 January he received a letter addressed to "The Residents" stating that it was from OHMS ONS, who was conducting a crime survey  in the area within the home.

On Tuesday 18 January this man called at the property. He was very persuasive, and articulate and expected to be let in. The resident did not let the man into his home and reported this suspicious activity to the Police.

We know this is not genuine because the letter is addressed to "All Residents" and secondly why would  a crime survey within the area  be conducted  in your own home?

If you have received a similar letter please  destroy and do not let the caller into your home as the OHMS On her Majesty Service and Office for National Statistics do not do surveys.

We are seeing and i crease in Burglaries  within the surrounding areas, so please see some prevention advice.to protect your homes.

Door Locks - fir strong locks to doors and windows and always remember to ,lock your doors and windows. Make sure your doors and frames are strong and in good condition.

Always double click  your front door to ensure all the locking points are engaged.

Keys - do not leave keys in locks in front or back doors.

Alarm - if you have one installed make sure it is working properly.

Time Switch - if a home is to be vacant for long periods of time use timer switches to turn on some lights when it gets dark.

Valuables - keep and inventory of valuables, photograph jewellery, do not keep large amounts of cash at home  if you need to then consider installing a safe.

TVP - Car warning

I saw the information below  from Thames Valley Police and thought I would share it. I have mentioned something similar before but rather apt for this time of year!

Whilst TVP were out searching for stolen vehicles by means of keyless theft, they came across several parked vehicles  being defrosted with there engines on and nobody to be seen with them.  That is an offence, but TVP are asking not to give criminals the easy option.

Yes it is very cold outside  at -2.00 degrees and it takes awhile to de-ice the car.....................but it will feel a lot colder stood at the bus stop tomorrow morning because your car(s) have been nicked!

Take Care
