Alert message sent 08/12/2020 15:40:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a suspicious incident in Datchet.

At around 3.15pm yesterday (7/12) it was reported that a 12-year-old girl was approached by a man who she did not know, while walking in Slough Road.

The man spoke to the girl in a foreign language which she did not understand and touched her shoulder. She was able to walk away and go towards a car, which was waiting for her. She was not injured during the incident.

Officers have a number of lines of enquiry and have been checking CCTV but would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the suspicious incident, who has not already spoken to police.

The man is described as white, aged approximately 30 to 40 years old, 5ft 11ins to 6ft, had shaggy brown hair and of medium build. He was wearing a peach coloured top and dark peach coloured woollen hat.

Detective Inspector Arshad Mohmood, leading the investigation, said: "I am keeping an open mind about what happened however we understand this incident has caused some concern to the girl, her family and the local community.

"We would like to identify the man involved to allow us to establish why he approached the girl.

"This happened in a busy area at a time when a number of parents were waiting to collect their children from the nearby school so I would be particularly interested to speak to anyone who may have captured the incident on a dash-cam in their vehicle.

"Please feel free to speak to any officers in the area to share any information or concerns and they will do their best to help."

Anyone with any information which could assist officers should call the non-emergency number 101, quoting the reference 43200413257.

If you do not wish to speak to police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111.
