Here is a bright idea

Alert message sent 14/10/2020 15:17:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Subject: Leave a Light On and keep your home secure
The evenings are already starting to draw in and the clocks go back in less than 2 weeks on Sunday 25 October, meaning many of us will return home from work or school in the dark.
Darker evenings can give burglars an opportunity to easily see which homes are unoccupied. Here are a few things you might like to consider to lessen the chance of your home being targeted:
Invest in a socket timer switch to allow a lamp to come on automatically whilst you are out, these timer switches can also be used for TV or Radio.

Keep valuables off the window sills and out of sight.

Insure you lock doors and windows. Remember some UPVC doors require you to double lock them by lifting the door handle before turning the key.

Ensure side gates are kept locked to prevent opportunist burglars from simply walking in to your rear garden.

Don’t leave garden tools out, lock them away in a shed or garage, to prevent a thief using them to force your door or window.

Look out for your neighbours homes and if you see anything suspicious call the police on 101.

Consider joining with your neighbours to form a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

Please feel free to share this advice with neighbours, family and friends.
