Appeal for witnesses following a keyless car theft in Kennington

Alert message sent 13/07/2020 10:05:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Between midnight and 8.15am on Friday (10/7) a car was stolen from the driveway of a property in Edward Road. The offenders did not have access to the key.

The car, a grey Mercedes, was later found abandoned in Cow Lane by a member of the public.

Offenders often place themselves by the front door of a property, in close proximity to the key, they then use a device and a laptop to intercept the signal from the remote sensor on the key and gain entry to the vehicle. They can then start the vehicle without the key and drive away.

If you have any information about this offence, please get in touch using our online form or by calling 101, quoting reference number 43200208673.

Here are a few tips you can follow to increase your car security:

🔑  Store keys away from windows and doors
🚗  Use a radio frequency identification (RFiD) blocking pouch for keyless entry vehicles
🔒  Use a steering lock
🚘  Park to restrict access to your vehicle
💎  Remove all valuables
