Security Measures Whilst Complying with Government Guidelines

Alert message sent 07/04/2020 14:31:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

As the warmer weather is fast approaching, this is an ideal opportunity for residents, landowners and rural businesses in West Berkshire to review their security measures, whilst still complying with Government guidelines on COVID-19:

Stay at home
  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you go out, stay 2 meters (6ft) away from other people at all times
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home
Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

Open areas of land are often subject to unlicensed music events (Rave’s) and unauthorised encampments during the summer months. Prevention is our strongest tactic to protect our communities from such incidents occurring. Target hardening locations will reduce the likelihood of such events. Both unlicensed music events and unauthorised encampments often require vehicle access onto the land in the initial stages. Securing recognised access points, securing boundaries to fields / land will make it much harder for vehicles to enter and delay / prevent such incidents.

Be on the lookout for increased vehicle movements / convoys of vehicles in your local areas. If you suspect that an unlicensed music event / unauthorised encampment is in progress, please contact the police immediately. West Berkshire LPA will continue to work in partnership with our colleagues at West Berkshire Council.
