FIRST - WE HAVE HAD LOTS OF DIPPERS (PICKPOCKETS) IN THE TOWN CENTRES, OVER THE WEEKEND.
The tourists make easy pickings, but a lot of local residents also had wallets, mobile, purses and bags stolen.
CAN EVERYONE BE ON THEIR GUARD AND AWARE OF WHO IS AROUND THEM - PARTICULARLY IF THE TOWN CENTRE IS CROWDED.
DON’T LET IT BE YOU
NEXT:-WE HAVE HAD A CALL FROM A LOCAL RESIDENT IN WINDSOR:
Thursday 22nd November 11.30 p.m. At approximately midnight, a friend I had seen earlier that evening, messaged me on Snapchat.
‘She’ was asking for confidential 'girl advice' as a friend. This was of a sexual nature. I thought it was odd, because this wasn't a normal conversation we would have, but I openly spoke to her - as she is my friend.
‘She', then asked me for sexual videos and I said no. A short time after this at 1.44 a.m., another friend, then messaged me on Facebook. I knew him, through mutual friends. He asked for some help, as he needed to reset his Snapchat password and his phone wasn't receiving messages. He wanted to send the unopened message to me, so that I could open it and tell him what it said. I was sceptical at first, but he convinced me - (stupidly) and I gave him my Snapchat details.
Using this information, he changed my Snapchat password. He messaged me on Facebook to ask for the 4 digit code, used for the 'my eyes only' section on Snapchat. This often has pictures and videos that you don't want others to see.
At this point, I had realised my mistake and was able to reset my password and log him out of my account. As soon as he realised I had noticed what he was doing, he blocked me on Facebook messenger.
I have now changed ALL my passwords to protect myself and my data.
This supposed ‘friend’, had also hacked my friend’s account and it was he who was asking me for sexual information and videos, using my friend's Snapchat account.
Other friends have also reported similar messages from the account, while it was hacked.
Snapchat were very helpful and sent me an email, listing the unusual activity and supplying me with the IP address, device and location.
The same thing has happened to several of my friends from this person.
Our advice, is - NEVER SHARE PERSONAL DATA ONLINE - YOU NEVER KNOW WHO THEY ARE.
DON’T LET IT BE YOU.
NEXT: PCSO Ryan Jones, has just been to speak with me. He has just been back to visit a victim of a scam, he dealt with some months ago. She had been targeted for a second time. This case involved the victim, receiving a letter in the post saying that a company had not received payment for some gold coins, she had purchased. On the last occasion this involved £8,000.
When she went to her bank to make the payment, she was confused and did not remember making the purchase, but as she had received a letter, she thought she must have done and wanted to transfer the cash. Fortunately she did not have that amount in her account and the bank convinced her, it was a scam.
She has now received a second letter, saying the same thing and Ryan went through it all again with her. Fortunately again, she did not transfer the little she has.
If you get anything like this through the post - and you cannot remember ordering the items - don’t simply send the money. Ask someone to look at it. That could be us or your bank. Let anyone who is elderly and confused know about this and ask them to run it past you, before sending any money !!
DON’T LET IT BE YOU.
