Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

This message is dated Monday 10th June 2019 for Maidenhead.

Just a reminder - we had ‘Dippers’ (pickpockets0 in the town centre over the weekend !  Purses and mobile phones stolen.

FIRST - from one of our members - who lives in Cornwall !

Dear Jeff,
A note from one of your long-time followers 250 miles away in Cornwall !

I receive scam e-mails, on a fairly regular basis all the time.  I never spend any time on them.  Most go to the Outlook Junk E-mail folder, but one or two do get through to my in-box.

I forward each one to nfibphishing@city-of-london.pnn.police.uk, with only my name and address.  Then I block it and delete it.

If only one, proves useful to Action Fraud, it is taking things in the right direction and is the right thing to do, so that they are made aware.

By the way, the collection of guidance notes I have created for the small charity I chair here in Cornwall, is now up to number 38.  I use the material that comes from you, or from Devon & Cornwall police - http://www.oasiscentre-cornwall.org.uk/crime.html

Keep up the good work

All the best

Jeremy

It was Jeremy, who alerted us to scam invoices being sent to finance departments at local churches and charities, for urgent / outstanding payment.  Often, the person who is doing the finance and paying bills for those organisations, would receive a bill going into collection or the court and pay it, before checking it out !  We were grateful to him for that alert !  keep it up Jeremy - we must spread the message to protect as many people as possible !

An additional comment from Duncan re HMRC Scams:

Hi Jeff

Many thanks for publishing my correspondence re scams. One thing you omitted, is that if the genuine HMRC contact you they will ALWAYS quote your NI number on ALL correspondence.

No NI number - it’s not from HMRC !!

Duncan

Many thanks Duncan

NEXT:  TV Licensing scam email

Hi Jeff,
How’s this below for a scam email! (Note the mis-spelling of licensing and cancelled). This was sent to me – I’m too old to be paying for a TV license anyway.
It’s in the deleted folder now.
Enjoyed your recent talk to our Probus club by the way, thanks.
Malcolm

Many thanks Malcolm, the email says that your last payment has been suspended as your bank has cancelled the last payment on your Direct Debit !  There is therefore a balance outstanding of £11.20.  Please click on the LINK to make the payment !!

DON’T DO IT !

I am very happy to come out and do a talk to any community group in RBWM about frauds and scams - I also talk about current Crime prevention advice re current crimes.  It takes between 45 minutes to an hour and a half - depending upon audience questions - I never want them to leave, not having asked a burning question they have.  If you want me to come ant talk to your group - email me at my police email below.
