Supplementary Schools in Oxfordshire

Alert message sent 24/11/2015 11:51:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Does your child attend a supplementary school?

Do you a volunteer at one?

A supplementary school offers non-statutory, out of school hours, educational opportunities for children and young people. They can offer a range of learning opportunities from religious and cultural studies, language classes to sport and drama lessons. They are often run in places of worship, youth clubs or community centres.

Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire County Council are working together to establish a voluntary scheme to support such schools. This scheme would offer support and training to those involved in running the schools. The scheme would look to identify mentors who can work with volunteers to ensure they are fully aware of their safeguarding responsibilities and have robust procedures in place.

Supplementary schools that join the scheme would be awarded a level of accreditation identifying them as a trusted school.  Initially we need to identify how many supplementary schools we have across Oxfordshire and which would be interested in joining the scheme.

If you run a supplementary school or your child attends one and you would like to know more please contact susan.cooper@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk  detailing the name of your school, where it is based and a point of contact.
We are collating the responses to assess what demand there will be across Oxfordshire and would appreciate a response by Tuesday 15 December.
