Alert message sent 27/09/2021 12:31:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Superintendent Bruce Riddell has been appointed as the new Commander for the Oxford Local Policing Area (LPA).

At the beginning of the month, on Monday 6 September, Superintendent Bruce Riddell started in his position as Commander, taking over from Superintendent Joe Kidman who has moved to another strategic role within Thames Valley Police.

Supt Riddell joined Thames Valley Police at Banbury police station in 1996 and has worked in a range of roles including as a Neighbourhood Sergeant, a Detective Inspector on the Serious and Organised Crime Unit, a secondment to the National Crime Agency (NCA) and most recently as the Silver Commander on the force response to the COVID pandemic. Supt Riddell is also the lead for the Force Hostage and Crises Negotiators.

On his appointment, Supt Riddell said: “I am delighted to be returning to the LPA where I previously worked as Detective Chief Inspector. We have excellent partnership working in Oxford that I am looking forward to building upon. My priorities will be to make Oxford a safer city, tackling serious violence including knife crime, domestic abuse and protecting vulnerable people, particularly children at risk of harm.”
