Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

This is a message from Wycombe District Neighbourhood Watch Association

We have received reports that this type of scam, which has been running for the last few years, is still active.  Many people in the Wycombe District have encountered them recently and, with the end of the financial year approaching, we can expect them to be more prevalent.

The typical format of the message is by email and usually refers to your entitlement to a tax refund.  The link in the message will take you to a ‘clone’ of the HMRC website and you will be asked to submit personal details so that the money can be paid directly into your bank account.  A typical message that was received this week is reproduced below:

It is a scam as HMRC will only write to you by letter and they will never send emails to announce such refunds.  You may also see mistakes in their use of the English language, grammar, and spelling – all of which are apparent in the above example.

Any such emails should be binned or forwarded for investigation to:

Remember that, if it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is!
