Thefts from Motor Vehicles

Alert message sent 13/01/2021 14:16:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Display and you will pay!

If you leave items on display in your vehicle, including loose change or a jacket, it can be an invitation to an opportunist thief. TVP have seen a rise in reported thefts from motor vehicles and you can reduce the chance of your vehicle becoming a target by following a few simple steps:

• Trust locks, not luck – always double check your vehicle is secure
• Keep keys safe - out of sight and store keyless entry fobs in a signal blocking pouch or box when not in use
• Perfect parking – if you have a garage, use it or try to park in a well-lit location
• Don’t tempt thieves – take your belongings with you and leave nothing on display. Never leave wallets, handbags, purses, cash or credit cards in an unattended vehicle even for a few seconds
• Be alarmed – car alarms can deter thieves
• Sat Nav – would you be lost without it? Remove it and make sure you wipe the sucker mark off the windscreen
• Your number’s up – number plates can be easily removed, secure them with tamper-resistant screws and contact the police if stolen.
