FIRST: A NASTY CASE OF A BOGUS BUILDER:
An elderly woman heard a knocking at her window. When she answered it a man was standing there who said he was working for someone up the road and could clean her gutters out for her.
She did the right thing and said she needed to phone her son, as he arranged all that. The man said there wasn’t time for that and said he would do it for whatever she had in her purse. She handed him £50 as she was really intimidated.
He then left - without doing anything at all !
He is described as - white, in his 50's, 6ft, overweight, black hair, clean shaven, no accent, black coat over dark clothing.
This is a difficult one. Always check before answering the door who is outside. If you don’t know them, signal them away from a window. If you do answer the door - MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE DOOR-CHAIN ON, BEFORE YOU OPEN IT. Rattle it when doing this - if it is a scammer, they won’t bother to stay ! If you don’t have a door chain, contact your local NHW Chair for Windsor and Ascot Valerie Pike using the email at the bottom of this message. She will get one fitted for you FREE !

We’ve been busy out and about, making sure everyone is complying with the Covid regulations and keeping safe.
Unfortunately, after returning from abroad, an individual didn’t deem it necessary to self-isolate !
A £1000 fine for not following the requirement and putting our community at risk !

Copied below is an announcement from the ‘Frimley Trust’ that affects patients and their visitors in their hospital wards. I think this is a tough regime for all concerned, but obviously is judged necessary for infection control at the present time.

Important change to our visitor policy - Covid-19
We are changing our policy for visitors across the Trust, so we can reduce footfall in our hospital wards and manage infection control.
From Saturday 17 October, we will move to allowing just one visitor for up to one hour, once every three days – a change from a daily one hour visit. This will apply to adult inpatient wards only. Arrangements for maternity services and paediatrics, will remain as before and provision may continue to be made, for patients with special requirements and for end-of-life care, where medically appropriate.
This is in response to an increase in the number of inpatients acquiring Covid-19 and patients admitted with positive tests. It reflects the proximity to our hospitals of areas that have been designated by the Government, as High Risk Tier 2.
Just inform visitors booking new slots that new bookings must follow this guidance of one hour, every three days.
If any wards are closed to admissions following patients testing positive for Covid-19, all visiting on that ward, will be suspended.
These messages are being made public, but please help to spread this update to patients and their visitors.

NEWS UPDATE FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
The lockdown has resulted in many neighbourhoods drawing closer together in supporting local residents with needs, and in neighbours spending a lot more time talking to each other over fences or across the road. This has improved community spirit to no end, and a great way to keep this spirit alive is for residents to join their local Neighbourhood Watch scheme, or start up a new scheme if there is not already one covering their respective street.
Neighbourhood Watch is not just about looking out the window and being alert for any crime in the neighbourhood, it is much more than that. It serves as a valuable resource for crime prevention, in supporting the Police with things such as local home security surveys, installing crime prevention aids in homes for the vulnerable and elderly especially, helping those vulnerable and elderly residents with any other needs, and in drawing residents together in supporting one another.
The Windsor & Ascot NHW Association is making great strides in reactivating and expanding Neighbourhood Watch within the various parishes of Windsor & Ascot. Its Facebook page (@WindsorAscotNHW) is receiving multiple enquiries from interested residents and serves as a means to highlight local issues relating to crime and residents in need. New NHW schemes are continuously being set up with active Coordinators, and residents within those scheme areas can now benefit from the new initiatives being introduced by Neighbourhood Watch and Thames Valley Police.
