They shouted and the man said that people were after him and he wanted to use the phone. While arresting the man, neighbours came out to say that their outbuildings had also been broken into and they had video footage of the man leaving their property jumping over the fence to next door. I’ve had a couple of suspicious phone calls recently; the last from someone offering loft insulation under “the Government’s Loft Insulation scheme”.
I was suspicious, because there was a long gap between my picking up the phone and any voice from the other end. I just put the phone down and dialled 1471 - unsurprisingly, the number does not exist.
G As always - if you did not generate the call, it is not rude - but the best thing to do - just replace the receiver - even if they are speaking !
NEXT: THE ELECTRICAL CABLES UNDER THE GARDEN SCAM - IT APPEARS TO BE VERY COMMON !
My neighbour has just received a paper letter about electric cables underneath his property which I have told him, is a scam.
The letter suggests that he would ,get £150 rental !
They are clearly after bank information. I showed him your recent report about such letters and I hope he will shred the letter.
Excellent advice - pass this onto everyone who might fall victim to it !
NEXT: Another DVLA Scam
‘A’ has received an email from the DVLA apparently. It says that their information is not up to date and contains some ‘irregularities in her profile’ and they would like her to update her full details by clicking on the LINK.
If she doesn’t - there is always a threat to make you panic - her driving licence will be suspended !!
So she was to click on the link and fill out all her current and correct personal details !!!
DON’T DO IT - DON’T LET IT BE YOU !!!!
NEXT: Some techy assistance
If you get a suspect email containing a Link. I have suggested you simply place your cursor over the Link - don’t click it - and the real address, hidden behind the Hyperlink, will show.
I have received this from ‘A’
I’m reluctant to click on the link in this email - just in case. Could be I’ve been in touch previously whilst checking family history, but I don’t think, it is legit!
You’ve mentioned before about hovering the mouse over an email address but this doesn’t seem to work on an iPad.
I don’t have an iPad - can someone let us know if that is true ??? In this case, I can see where the link goes - to a marketing company !
NEXT: Another one from ‘A’, being publicized on her Next door website
Are you aware of another scam call going around and using a local 01344 number ?
It is supposedly to do with insulation, and they’re being a real nuisance. There are a lot of comments on our local ‘Nextdoor’ site.
NEXT: A reminder about fake £50 notes:
Just a reminder for people - especially shop keepers - to keep an eye out for fake £50.00 notes, which are circulating the area.
They are very good copies and would easily pass as genuine, without thorough checking.
Please consider using our online reporting system but please note this reporting tool is not for use where a crime happening right now, the suspect is still at the scene, or anyone seriously injured or in immediate danger.
