Theft from Motor Vehicles in the Tilehurst -Norcot Neighbourhood

Alert message sent 04/07/2019 10:04:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

There has been an increase in theft from motor vehicles over the past few days overnight in the Tilehurst Neighbourhood  , entry is being gained by smashing window and various property is being stolen , the thefts have occurred in Church End Lane and Coalport Way
To help to try and prevent thefts and to ensure that your car/van is not an appealing target for a thief, we are asking you to be extra vigilant and consider your vehicle security.

1.  Ensure your car/van is always left locked and secure.
2.  Do not leave possessions in your vehicle, whether valuable or not. A thief wouldn’t know the bag left on the back seat only contains a gym kit for example.
Thames Valley Police would advise you to remove any tools or valuables from your vehicles at night or when not in use
3.  Remove sat navs from your car/van, including the cradle and clean the suction mark from the window. A thief will expect to find it hidden in the glove compartment or under the seat!
4.  Do not leave valuables in your boot.
5.  Anti-tamper proof screws for number plates are available from Vehicle Accessory shops.  Also please register your valuables at www.immobilise.com. And for further crime prevention advice visit www.thamesvalleypolice.co.uk.

Please report any suspicious activity via the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101, also please check your CCTV cameras, Ringcam and Dashcam

Crime prevention advice for van drivers
Park your vehicle in a secure area (in a garage or behind locked gates, if possible).
If you can’t, park in a well-lit street in easy view of your own or neighbours’ houses.
Where possible, remove valuable items from the vehicle overnight and store them in a secure place.
Do not leave tools or equipment on view inside the vehicle.
Consider fitting an appropriate alarm system, protecting the cabin and load areas.
Apply a security marking product to power tools and equipment (further details available on request). Alternatively, etch or emboss identifiable marks to these items.
Consider installing secure storage containers or lockers in the van to store tools in.
Ensure that the van doors are securely lockable and consider having suitable deadlocks installed.
Make sure to physically check that the van doors and windows are locked if you have used the remote to lock the vehicle, even if the feedback indicates the van as locked.
When visiting businesses, try to park close to the entrance and preferably in the view of CCTV
