Halloween and Bonfire Night Anti-Social Behaviour

Alert message sent 15/10/2018 14:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

With Halloween and Bonfire Night fast approaching Thames Valley Police are asking for all local schools to help with tackling anti-social behaviour that may occur during this period.

A number of posters have been included with this letter and we ask that these be displayed around the school.  We would also like to ask that the following be discussed during school assembly/tutor time.

Halloween

  • If you are going Trick or Treating then either go with an adult or make sure you parent/carer knows where you are going and when to expect you back.
  • Respect posters asking you not to trick or treat at someone’s house.
  • Don’t trick or treat alone.
  • Eggs and Flour are for baking and not to be thrown.
  • Stay in well-lit areas where there are plenty of houses.
  • Wait to eat any treats until you are home so that an adult can check them.
    Bonfire Night
You may receive either a £5000 fine, 6 months’ imprisonment and/or receive a £90 on the spot fine for:-
  • Possession of a firework by anyone under the age of 18 in a public place.
  • Throwing fireworks or setting off fireworks in a public place.
  • Possession of Category 4 Firework (Display Firework) by anyone other than a firework professional.
  • Setting off fireworks between the hours of 11pm and 7am – except Bonfire Night when the time limit is 12pm-7am.
Thank you for your support in this matter and we wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween and Bonfire season.
    Yours sincerely,
    Reading LPA Neighbourhood Policing Team
