On behalf of Thames Valley Police, Theale Parish Council and West Berkshire District Council, thank you for your patience and tolerance over the last 48 hours. You will be aware that following the use of powers under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, combined with effective engagement, the trespassers on the encampment have now left Theale.
It has been a testing and challenging couple of days. We recognise the restraint of residents from taking matters into their own hands to allow the proper processes to take place – even if these sometimes took longer than you would wish. The consequences of taking your own action could have been illegal and had an adverse longer term impact on the community.
This outcome has been reached through the Parish Council, Local Authority, Police and the Englefield Estate successfully and carefully working together.
We would encourage you in the future to check the Parish Council website and Thames Valley Alerts for accurate messages and updates on what is happening in the area. Whilst social media is fast and very appealing, it can also be inflammatory, and can be inaccurate or misleading on occasions.
If your neighbours, family or friends are not already registered to receive free Thames Valley Alerts, they can sign up here: https://www.thamesvalleyalert.co.uk/
Thank you for your co-operation.
