Home Security - Lock it and Light It

Alert message sent 14/11/2017 15:58:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

As the autumn nights draw in and winter approaches it's time to start thinking about making your home look occupied, even when you are out or away. Its also time to consider your home security.

Check that your doors and windows are secure when leaving your home. Never leave valuables such as handbags, wallets and mobile phones near to insecure doors and windows, even when you are home.

Timer switches can be purchased cheaply from most supermarkets and electrical goods retailers. Team this with a small lamp placed near a window and you're on your way to a home that is less attractive to opportunistic burglars.

Another option available is a small box called a fake TV which, when the ambient light gets low enough, mimics a switched on TV. This again can provide the appearance of an occupied home.

There is lots of useful advice available on the Thames Valley Police website crime prevention page. Just following this link to go to the page:

Remember. Be bright. Leave on a light.
