This message is dated Wednesday 13th September 2017 for Maidenhead.
FIRST SOME ADVICE FROM ONE OF OUR MEMBERS - IT HAPPENED TO HER - IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.
This morning I found that the inside of my car had been searched. Nothing serious taken.
Some items from the driver’s tray had been scattered on the driver’s seat, compartments opened and my £5 emergency fund, was taken.
At the end of each day, when I put my dogs out for 10 minutes in the drive, I check that the cars are locked before locking up the house.
Last night my dogs had barked unusually and gone to the front door at around 8pm, and having looked out at the drive and seen nothing I disregarded it. This must have been the time someone was in the drive.
I have security lighting everywhere at the front and back of the house and a security camera on the entrance gates and facing onto the front door where the cars are parked.
To my dismay the camera was not working when I checked today.
Unfortunately we have had power surges over the past few days which must have affected the circuit.
In future I will lock my car the minute I get out of it ...
We still want all these cases recorded, as it could place an offender in you road, at a particular time, if crimes also happened elsewhere to produce a pattern – once we know that, it could identify an offender. It could display a route and someone else who lives nearby, may have CCTV.
As you can see from my messages – sunglasses and loose change are what goes most often.
I will put something out – Jenny shouldn’t beat herself up, it happens to all of us ! Our lives are so full of distractions !
NEXT: in from Peter:
Hi did a note to all his scheme members about local garage breaks and reminding them to keep them locked:
I have checked the security of all the garages.
I have notices that some garages are unlocked. I do not know whether this is deliberate by the particular owner, or the lock has been forced.
Leaving garage doors unlocked encourages return visits by thieves to see what’s now worth stealing. As Jeffery Pick has said MANY TIMES, unlocked entries to vehicles and garages encourages thieves. The word is spread on their networks that Sunninghill Court is an easy touch.
Please make sure YOUR garage door is left always LOCKED, even if you have taken your vehicle out.
As a result of my note, I had this back from a neighbour:
I've just been to have a look at my garage and found that it's been unlocked but with no damage to the lock as far as I can see. A couple of old open bags of compost are gone - everything else in there is just things to throw away and some plastic flower pots. If anything else has gone it was probably due to be thrown anyway.
Thanks again for letting us all know.
Well done Peter. AND - for all our other members, if I report a garage break near you, can you make sure yours has not been targeted ?
As the Autumn comes along and we move into darker evenings and you feel you don’t want to be writing notes and going out on wet and windy miserable evenings, putting them through people’s letterboxes - think about getting them to sign up to receive the Alerts directly.
It doesn’t mean that you don’t have to do all the other things co-ordinators do, to maintain and encourage their members - it just relives you of this part of the burden.
If you have elderly / vulnerable neighbours, think about whether they need to be signed up. Sometimes, they don’t need to know everything in my messages and those who know them, are in a better position to decide how to pass on the warnings without unduly alarming them or raising their fear of crime. The role of a ’co-ordinator’, is just as vital as it has always been.
I have just received from Catherine Williams at the RBWM DAAT - Drugs & Alcohol Action Team - the new Mental Health, Self Harm and Suicide Prevention Service Guide for RBWM, which has just been published:
I have attached a new e-guide for the Royal Borough that was produced in advance of World Suicide Prevention Day, which was on Sunday 10th September.
The guide has information on local services for both adults and young people, as well as national groups and web based support. Please forward it to your members, who may find it useful.

I've been getting messages from a "Mintedmobi" asking me to enter a prize competition-something I would never do. So I just deleted them.
I've just had a call from Vodafone, in the course of which, it was pointed out that this ‘Minty’ thing is a Premium Rate scam.
I get charged when they send me a message, without my knowing !
If you Google "60044 number" the details are there to stop this scam. Just reply STOP.
Thanks Tony. If you Google the number, you do get a warning. And enquiries from other who have been scammed:
I have been fraudulently been charged by this number how do I stop this ?
They have been taking £4.50 every Monday from m y wife’s mobile since last July. How can we put a stop to this?
I got a text from this number and it charged me and I don’t want it contacting me again is there a email I can use to tell them I do not want their service and I have stopped the messages
I'm being charge £3.50 every Tuesday for something, but not receiving a text from them but still getting charged?? How do I stop
I just checked and since June they robbed me of £135. Basically the sent me a message that I did not notice letting me know that I was subscribed until I said STOP ! I did not see the message hence the charges. Mobile providers should shield us from these scams !
THE ANSWER IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO YOU:
Yes, I have been getting these text messages as well, I found out by accident, did not realize I was being robbed!!.
I phoned the people up, after telling them what I thought of them, and that I never signed up for this.
He said I entered a competition for ‘Tesco’ on 27/06/16 @ 11.20 am (yes that exact detail), but he has stopped it today!!
He gave me an email address to claim my money back firstname.lastname@example.org
You will need to e mail your mobile phone number, and a copy of you mobile bills, I have sent mine off today, only time will tell, there is one thing for sure they are not going to get away with it !
PLEASE DO NOT ENTER COMPETITIONS IN STORES AND MAGAZINES.
The only reason they run them is to obtain your personal information. It just isn’t worth it - you are giving them all this for free !
I have now heard back from Tony:
It's my understanding after my conversation with Vodafone that it doesn't matter, whether you open it as course with a text, it opens automatically anyway.
I don't understand fully how this all works. After replying STOP ALL to the last text I got the following reply
"Free Msg: All competition subscriptions on this shortcode are now cancelled are now cancelled and no further messages will be sent. Customer services 03301340181"
Of course they could start another "short code" so, I'll be prepared for that !
NEXT UNWANTED CALLS:
I took a call from a lady who is 94 and lives in Maidenhead.
She has concerns over numerous phone calls she is receiving, about her double glazing.
The caller wants to come round and visit, to inspect the windows. He said she may need them replacing.
Her concern was that they have all her personal details, including her age, which she has never disclosed to them.
She said that one of the RBWM Community Wardens - Clive Dent, had given her his card some time ago. Please could you phone her to reassure her.

Clive has done this, but I thought it produces a useful message for us all to remember. Think about the competitions you may have entered. Do any of them have a box for your age, whether or not you are married or single / live alone ?
With all the information available online. Companies off this sort of detail for sale. They use algorithms, to search the internet, for all references to certain categories. So for example, I can but a list of all residents over the age of 65, who own their own home, own a car outright, take one or more holidays abroad each year, live alone (the Electoral Role shows this) etc. etc. They can buy this list, at £X per name and address.
The other thing about phone calls - is a BT Call Blocker phone !!!

NEXT - SCAMMERS ARE GETTING MORE ASTUTE AS WE KNOW NOT TO ‘CLICK HERE’
Guessing this is spam...?
The email comes from Apple. It says that her account has just been accessed from a new Windows device. To make sure it was you…
Scammers have wised up and are now using all sorts of alternative word combinations, to cover up the ‘CLICK HERE’ !!!!
NEXT - ANOTHER ‘WINNER’ SCAM.
Malcolm sent in this one.
It is from Dyson - apparently - he is one of three potential winners to go into a final draw - if he answers 3 simple questions….and confirms all his personal details, by……’CLICKING HERE’
DON’T DO IT
