Racially-aggravated common assault in Reading

Alert message sent 27/07/2017 15:55:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses in connection with a racially-aggravated assault in Reading.

At around 7.45pm on Monday 17 July the male offender was driving a silver BMW behind the victim, a 19-year-old man driving an orange Vauxhall Corsa, along Woodside Way in Whitley. A ‘road rage’ incident started on the roundabout adjacent to the A33 and the Tesco depot, near the Reading Gate Retail Park.

The victim stopped his vehicle and the offender approached his driver’s door shouting a racist swear word at him. The victim was then slapped in the face by the offender which sent his glasses flying off his face and they broke on the passenger side.

The offender then slapped him three further times in the face before he drove away at speed. The victim did not sustain any injuries.

Investigating officer Police Constable Richard Probyn-Probert said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw the vehicles travelling in the area immediately prior to the assault.”
