No2 capsules.  I am really grateful for the feedback I have received from you – a report about a ‘Wippit’ party in Sunningdale, where hundreds of cartridges were found.  Our Schools Officer, PC Graham Slater is going into local schools, to discuss this issue and the implications with them.

I have also now received this from Catherine Williams at the ‘D.A.A.T.’ – the Drugs & Alcohol Action Team for RBWM

Hi Jeff,

I read your information about Nitrous Oxide with interest and wanted to let you know that the Drug and Alcohol Action Team have produced a postcard and poster with more information about the drug.  They can be downloaded from the Royal Borough’s website at the addresses below or hard copies can be supplied by the Drug & Alcohol Action Team if residents email;

Best Regards

Catherine

NEXT from Kate about this issue:

Hi Jeff

A note to add about the No2 capsules.

Not only might those involved get a criminal record, but they could endanger lives.

Because they are buying the capsules over the internet they cannot be sure what they are buying exactly and they might contain something else, something harmful.

I researched this, when my daughter told me it was harmless and discovered the greatest danger, is that you don't know what you are inhaling, or how it could affect you.

The ‘High’ is caused because the No2, replacing the oxygen going to the brain. Because the brain is starved of oxygen, the person becomes light headed and euphoric.  The ‘High’, lasts minute or two.  There may be limited damage to the brain, but if kids continue to inhale it to get further highs…………

I think we need to circulate a warning to parents !

Jim has contacted me from Maidenhead –

Hi Jeff

Reference the silver nitrous oxide gas capsules in today's crime update. About 10 days ago I found a box of about 25 used capsules & 2 silver balloons, strewn over the pavement & kerb, outside our house.

Jim

Thanks Jim, apparently they are everywhere, in large numbers.

I have received an email from Andrew in Wraysbury, on another matter:

Hi Jeff,

A few weeks ago, an elderly neighbour was the victim of a distraction burglary.  A man called at the door saying he was from the police and he wanted to check her security.  As he said he was a policeman, she let him in.  Later, she found a purse had been stolen.  It had been a ‘distraction Burglary’ and he was not, from the police.

Andrew wondered why there was no mention of ‘Distraction Burglaries’, in the ‘Cocooning Packs circulated by the police to Neighbours, after that crime.

We prepare the packs here, in this team and generally, I decide what goes in them.  For those that have never seen one; after every burglary, the Neighbourhood Team goes out to talk to as many people as possible in that road, to offering crime prevention advice and a warning about what has happened.  If a neighbour is not home, they leave a ‘Cocooning Pack’.  The people who live in the four houses either side and opposite the victim, must receive a pack, and a visit.

There are all sorts of information leaflets and handouts, in the pack, but I have not included a leaflet re Distraction Burglaries, as they are so rare.  The advice re a police officer at your door, is exactly the same, as anyone else.

NO-ONE COMES INSIDE YOUR HOME, UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM, OR THEY HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT.

Generally, we only carry out Home Security Surveys, if you have made a specific request and then a named officer, makes an appointment with you.  He or she, will always be in full police uniform – PC or PCSO.  They will carry and be able to show, their Warrant Card.

If we are carrying out ‘Cocooning’ in a road post a burglary, again, everyone, will be in full police uniform.  It is safe to invite a uniformed officer into your home and you can of course, ask to see their warrant card, which they will be happy to show you.

If a non-uniformed officer appears at your door, maintaining he is from CID or some other non uniformed branch of the police, the above advice applies.
He does not come into your home, unless you are sure, he is, who he says he is.  Ask him for his name and shoulder number, then phone the 101 number, to make sure.  The operator can look him up on our internal staff lists and confirm, whether or not, he is genuine.

Simple

NEXT – GARAGE SECURITY

I am grateful to D for this advice, as we are being hammered right across RBWM with garage breaks at the moment:

Hi Jeff

Garage doors are very easy to force open from the outside, as they are only secured in the main, with a couple of tongues at the bottom. A couple of loose flat pieces of steel inserted on the inside of the door at the base, between the support strut and the door and extending behind the frame makes opening them almost impossible without destroying the door.

Very simple very effective.

D

Thanks D

NEIGHBOURS’ CCTV – AND – Guard Cams

This happened in Windsor - 17/1  Tuesday midnight / 8.40 a.m.  Kensington Mews.  Laptop taken from a car.  When the owner went to the car in the morning, he found a car door open, the car searched and the rear seats folded down.  Paperwork and the laptop bag, were recovered nearby.  This is a gated community and one of their neighbours, has a ‘Guard Cam’ !  I promote these all the time, as they are brilliant.  They look just like a normal security light, but inside is an HDD camera that provides very high quality colour footage, every time the sensor is activated.  During the day, the quality is brilliant.  At night – because each time the beam is broken, the security light comes on and it starts recording, so again, it is in full floodlit HDD colour !  Simply replace one of your security lights, with one of these.  They have a slot in the side for an SD Ram card – same as in your digital camera – it records onto the card and when it is full, records over it automatically.  If anything happens in your area, you simply remove the card, plug it into your computer / laptop and view the footage.  You can email the individual film clips, to anyone that needs them.  Simply search ‘Guard Cam’ on Amazon – about £80.  In this case, the neighbour checked their footage, which shows a man wandering around the houses at 3.30 a.m..  He walked up to the car.  Later at 4.40 a.m. it shows a car driving around suspiciously.  Always check your footage if I report a crime in your area.  You may not have been the target / victim, but you

LEAD THEFTS FROM ROOFS – 2 IN ETON HIGH STREET THIS WEEK !!
13/1 – 16/1  Friday 4 p.m. Monday 8 a.m.  High Street, Eton.  Lead stripped from Eton College buildings – 2nd lead theft in a week in Eton.  The thieves climbed over a secure fence, then used a ladder to climb onto the roof to strip the lead.  They may have been disturbed as the ladder was left in place and some of the stripped lead was left behind.  Was it you that disturbed the thieves ?  You may not be aware that you did, but someone must have walked by and noticed the ladder looking up.  The thieves may have thought they had been spotted and immediately made off.  If you have lead flashing visible from the road can you keep an eye on it and check it every day ?
In the first case, the lead flashing was torn away from around the windows of a gallery.  The alarm sounded and the thieves immediately made off, leaving the lead behind.

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:

FIRST in from both Chris and Charles

The email
addressed to Chris - Hello Christian name, comma, surname

It appears to be from BT.  It says that his last payment was declined, possibly due to insufficient funds.

Could he please ‘CLICK ON THE LINK’ to update their billing information !!!!!!

Thanks for the warning Chris – the email address had no reference to BT but was testXXXXXXXsecurityvietnam.com !!!  The email address for Charles’ version KaylanXXXXX.verkeila.com  - This scam email from BT must have been sold onto loads of scammers

Rather a giveaway – they are no longer even bothering to use a fake email address to cover the scam !

DON’T DO IT !
NEXT from Athena:

Hi Jeff,

I am not actually replying to this alert but would like to tell you about an email I received yesterday.

It suggested it was from HMRC and had their logo at the top. It was regarding a tax rebate.

The figure they quoted was correct and is what I am due !

It then told me to 'click here' I imagine it would ask for my bank details for allowing payment. This email rings a bell so it may already be a scam you have mentioned before.

Thanks

Athena

Many thanks Athena.

In cases like this – simply email your tax office yourself, to establish if it came from them !

Autism Spectrum:

Next I have received a message from Chell Simmo, who runs a club for anyone on the Autism Spectrum, asking me to put out a poster advertising a new club for those on the Autism Spectrum between the age of 16 – 25.  See the attached poster.
