Crime Update Friday 6th January 2017 - Maidenhead

Alert message sent 06/01/2017 14:19:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

This message is dated Friday 6th January 2017 for Maidenhead.

Just to remind everyone, that crime occurs when we least expect it and when we are distracted.  This case is a sad reminder, that thieves are out there 24 / 7 just waiting for us to make a mistake and be off guard, which is generally when we make mistakes and offer opportunist thieves an opening.

I received this today from S….. who lives in Wavell Road, Maidenhead

Hi Jeff

Just in case there are other people in our area, who suffered losses from their cars in the early hours of this morning, I just want to let you know that we believe that one of our cars was raided, so you know where thieves are striking.

My husband was very stressed out trying to deal with our heating system which failed on New Year’s day.  He was exhausted, so it is possible that he left his car unlocked, which is out of character, but we are not 100% sure.

There was no damage to the car.  We discovered the losses at 9 am this morning.  During the night our dog went into our living room, which is at the front of the house and barked – it might have been around 2 am – I have an ear infection and am deaf in one ear at the moment, so did not respond as quickly as usual, nor did I think about thieves, more focussed on feeling cold.

I didn’t want our dog upsetting the neighbours and told him off !  Lesson learnt.  The only other time the items could have been stolen, was when he visited Screwfix around 4.40 pm on Wednesday evening, but I think this less likely.

A brand new Apple TV 4th generation (stupidly left in the car, which was purchased for my parents) was taken – delivery was delayed because of our heating problem.  In addition to this, two brand new IPAD cases for IPAD 3 (10 inch) were taken, again purchased for my elderly housebound parents.  A power supply, which had been left in the car, to be returned, as well as his IPOD Classic which was stolen from the glove box.  They were selective in what they took.

Kind regards

S

We will all feel for S as we have all been in the same boat.  Do you live in the area ?  Did you see anything suspicious ?  Did you see kids walking around looking into cars / trying car door handles ?  If you do see anything like that – and as normal people, our instincts would draw our attention to it – that is an immediate 999 call – a crime in progress.  We all need to be vigilant for each other as it was S today and it could be you tomorrow.  It happens to us all.

Some good news:

Hi Jeff

It has taken a while but due to budget cuts, I have managed to purchase a very limited number of door stickers – ‘We do not buy and sell at the door’ !!!

They are slightly different in that they stick on the inside of the door/window (this wasn’t my suggestion but I think it will work as will keep them more weather safe).

I can’t just hand them all out, as they need to last for a while but if you would like a couple of hundred, then let me know.  Also any other suggestions of distribution? I will put them in my Trading Standards information packs.

Kind regards
Honor
