We’re urging local businesses and residents to stay alert following reports of counterfeit £20 notes being used in Witney. Officers have received several incidents where fake notes were passed in shops.
To help protect yourself:
• Check security features such as holograms, raised print, and the see‑through window • Look for signs of tampering — including clear sticky tape added to damaged areas, which can indicate a note has been altered • Use counterfeit‑detecting pens or UV lights if available • Report suspicious behaviour to us as soon as possible • Keep CCTV footage if you believe a fake note has been used
