During the build up to the holidays I just wanted to remind everyone about the legislation for E-scooters and E-bikes. E‑Scooters E‑scooters may only be used in public if they are part of an approved rental scheme.Reading currently does not operate such schemes.To use a rental e‑scooter, riders must: - Be 18 years or older
- Hold a valid driving licence with the Q category
Privately owned e‑scooters can only be used on private property.E-Bikes Minimum rider age: 14 years.Motor power must not exceed 250 watts.Speed must be limited to 15.5 mph.The bike must display either: - Battery voltage or top speed, and
- Power output or the motor manufacturer.
Pedals must be fitted and capable of propelling the bike.Sur-Ron, Talaria & Modified E-Bikes Classified as motorcycles.Must have a valid MOT, be taxed, and insured.Must comply with all other legislation applicable to motor vehicles.Legal Enforcement Any vehicle found not to comply with these rules may be seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.Important Note: If you are considering gifting one of these vehicles, please ensure it fully complies with the law before purchase or use. |
