Community Priorities - Positive Action

Good Afternoon Resident,

Following my TV Alert a few weeks ago, I wanted to update you with some action the team and I have been taking over the past couple of weeks.

If you're finding this method of communication beneficial, please click the ‘Rate’ button at the bottom and give me some feedback! There is also an option, at the bottom, to Reply to me if you have any questions about the information I send out.

  • Community Priority - Drugs
  • 15th August - Abbotsbury, Great Hollands - PS Wong, SC Kelly and I were on foot patrol around Great Hollands and our ‘Coppers Nose’ started twitching, smelling Cannabis. We followed the scent to a vehicle parked up on Abbotsbury.

✅ Search Conducted - A quantity of herbal cannabis was seized from three of the five males who were searched

✅ Two of the males will be issued Community Resolutions - where they will be required to undertake a Drug Diversion Scheme course.

✅ One male will be interviewed at the police station, due to the amount he was found with.

  • Community Priority - E-Bike and E-Scooters
  • 16th August - Harrier Way, Jennett's Park - PC Canning and I were on patrol in Lovelace Lane following reports of vehicular ASB.

During the patrol, a 17 year old male was seen riding a modified E-Bike capable of 45mph and subsequently failed to stop for us. We managed to contain him in Wykery Copse and got him off the bike.

✅ Search conducted – Herbal cannabis found and seized. The rider will be required to engage with the Youth Offending Team (YOT).
✅ E-Bike seized – Under Section 165a of the Road Traffic Act. The bike, worth £1200, is now off the road.
✅ Reported to court for No Insurance – This offence can lead to a £300 fine and 6 penalty points.

🚨 During this incident, two local dads were walking with their young children on the same footpath the rider was on. One wrong move could have led to something far more serious. The rider believed he was in control - but that’s not enough when others are at risk.

We see a lot of youths on Electric bikes and E-Scooters. Please make sure you are aware of the laws if you're considering buying one.

❌ Illegal - Driving an E-Scooter on public land (they are legal to purchase, but only legal for use on private land)
✅ Legal: Electric Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPCs) – must pedal to activate motor, age 14+ only.
❌ Illegal: ‘Twist and go’ style bikes – where the motor activates without pedalling.
