Tool thefts Fifield

Dear Residents,

We want to make you aware that in the early hours of this morning, there were at least three males wearing balaclavas seen acting suspiciously in the Fifield area. They appeared to be looking at various properties before targeting those currently being built or renovated. Builders' tools were stolen from several sites, and a resident's van was also broken into, with further tools taken.

We strongly encourage all residents—especially those with ongoing building or renovation work—to take extra precautions to secure their properties. Please consider the following crime prevention measures:

  • Install a monitored burglar alarm to deter intruders and alert you immediately if there’s a break-in.
  • Use hardwired CCTV systems with good night vision to cover all access points and driveways; make sure they are clearly visible to act as a deterrent.
  • Secure all tools and equipment inside locked storage units or remove them from site overnight if possible. We strongly encourage all builders to mark their tools using Selecta DNA or by engraving their postcode, and take note of serial numbers as marked tools are far more likely to be identified and returned by police if recovered after a theft.
  • Lock vans and consider fitting reinforced locks or steel tool safes inside.
  • Ensure proper fencing and lighting around renovation sites. Motion-activated lights are especially useful.
  • Be alert to unusual activity, especially around houses under renovation or left vacant overnight. Report anything suspicious to the police immediately.
  • We appreciate your vigilance and cooperation. By working together and taking preventative steps, we can help protect our community.
