Appeal for witnesses to attempted murder

Hello Resident,

We are appealing for witnesses to an attempted murder in Reading in the early hours of this morning.
 

Three men, one in their late teens, one in his twenties, and one in his thirties, suffered serious injuries, thought to be caused by a knife, in St Mary’s Butts at around 3.25am. All three were taken to hospital for treatment. The man in his late teens has been discharged, while the others remain in hospital.
 

A 34–year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody.
 

There is a large scene-watch in place in St Mary’s Butts so people will see an increased police presence in the area while officers and staff carry out enquiries. We understand people may have concerns but you are welcome to discuss these with any of our uniformed officers.

We believe there were numerous witnesses to the incident, including those with mobile phone footage of it and/or the aftermath. So please send any footage or photos to us instead of sharing on social media. You can do so directly via this dedicated online portal.
 

Lastly, we understand the scene is causing some disruption in the town centre but please be patient while we investigate. We will reduce and remove the scene as soon as we are able to. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
