📢 Vehicle Security Newsletter –

Dear Residents,

As your local Police Community Support Officer, I’d like to share some important advice on how to keep your vehicle safe from theft and break-ins. Unfortunately, vehicle crime can happen in even the safest of neighbourhoods, but with a few simple steps, you can significantly reduce your risk.

đźš— Top Tips to Prevent Vehicle Crime

1. Lock It or Lose It
Always double-check that your vehicle is locked, even if you’re only leaving it for a moment. Thieves often target cars that are left unlocked in driveways or outside shops.

2. Remove Valuables from View
Never leave items such as sat navigation devices, phones, bags, or loose change visible inside your vehicle. Even empty bags or jackets can tempt a thief.

3. Park Smart
Whenever possible, park in well-lit, busy areas or in a secure garage. If you’re parking on the street, choose places covered by CCTV or overlooked by homes or businesses.

4. Use Physical Deterrents
Consider using a steering wheel lock or a gear stick lock. Visible security devices act as strong deterrents and make your vehicle a less attractive target.

5. Don't Leave Keys Near Doors or Windows
Thieves can use tools to reach through letterboxes and windows to grab keys. Keep them well out of sight and preferably in a signal-blocking pouch if your vehicle uses keyless entry.

6. Be Cautious with Keyless Entry Systems
Keyless vehicles are increasingly targeted by criminals using “relay attacks.” Store your keys in a Faraday pouch to block the signal and prevent theft.

7. Secure Your Number Plates
Fit anti-theft screws to your number plates. Stolen plates are often used to disguise stolen vehicles or commit further crimes.

đź‘® What to Do If You See Suspicious Activity

If you notice someone acting suspiciously around vehicles—yours or a neighbour’s—report it immediately by calling 101 or using the online reporting service. In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, always call 999.
